pushing more watercolor around-

I was up in Seattle for a couple days- got to see the Lady Washington, a replica 112 foot brig that sails up and down the coast as a teaching/educational ship. The original was the first US ship to make it to the Pacific coast- pretty neat. I sat down and did a 30ish minute sketch, watercolor and pen. Also a misty morning looking out over Lake Washington.

worked out a hacky, hacky, oh so hacky mesh for myself in maya, worked up a couple of thumbs, then spent an afternoon putting the thing together-

so, after staring at some of the thinner looking thumbs, i got to thinking that maybe it’s windy in the swamp where these guys are placed – and maybe part of the reason to keep them on huge mechanical legs is so they can swing into position parallel to the wind. Still in progress..

This guy is Commander Carter Reid- sort of a mix between a Jack Aubrey type character and more of a swashbuckling adventurer. I was thinking about the royal navy stationed around india way back when, and how they started to pick up bits and pieces of the local character- that mixed with a bit of game fantasy fun.
